Last year Tampere Smart City Week was held for the first time. The week brought together several smart city events from different organizations, and was a true success. Thus, the tradition will be continued. The next Tampere Smart City Week will be organized from 25 to 31 January 2020. The planning of the week has now started and various partners are being sought.

The first Tampere Smart City Week attracted great international interest. During the week, the City of Tampere received several high-level international delegations, for example from Guangzhou, St. Petersburg, Mexico, Lodz, Trondheim, Nizhni Novgorod, Lithuania and Kenya. In addition to smart city topics, the guests were also introduced with cleantech solutions, circular economy, education and healthcare in Tampere. The aim was to recognize the possibilities for cooperation with the city, companies and universities.

The week was successful in many other ways too. Events were organized for a wide range of target groups, such as experts, investors, residents and children. In this way, smart city development and the solutions developed in Tampere were able to be presented extensively. The week was created by several different parties, such as local newspaper, universities, organizations and companies. This type of networking and cooperation furthers the competitiveness of the region.

Based on these good experiences, Smart Tampere wants to reorganize the week. The next Tampere Smart City Week is now being planned with the lead of Katri Schulze.

The week is going to be very diverse. It will show how the innovative, digital and sustainable smart city solutions are created in the Tampere Region, says Katri Schulze, Coordinator of Smart City Week in Tampere, from Business Tampere.

As before, the event week will be organized together with the local actors. At the moment for example City of Tampere, Business Tampere, Tampere University, Mindtrek and Tampere Chamber of Commerce are involved. Things related to the week, such as the program, will be announced and updated on Tampere Smart City Week’s own page as the planning progresses.
